The Municipality of Chepelare has outlined a new vision for the development of climatotherapy and sports. This took place during the first meeting of the new Tourism Advisory Council to the Mayor of Chepelare Municipality, held on December 12.

During the meeting, the Chair of the Council and Mayor of Chepelare Municipality, Mr. Boran Hadzhiev, presented the key points on which the town of Chepelare will be positioned on the tourism map, not only in Bulgaria but also internationally.
The members of the Council united around a strategy to establish the municipality as a tourist destination for climatotherapy, sports tourism, ecotourism, and rural tourism, while the Pamporovo resort will continue to build on its image as a preferred destination for skiing and family tourism.
The development of tourism based on climatotherapy, using the unique natural resources of the region, will turn Chepelare into a preferred center for recovery, rehabilitation, and high-altitude training for athletes.
Chepelare Municipality has already submitted its application to host the European Ski Orienteering Championships in 2021, and the major news from the meeting is the decision of the Tourism Advisory Council that Chepelare should apply for European City of Sport 2021. For this purpose, a strategy will be developed to enrich the sports calendar and improve sports conditions.

The analysis shows that the problems inherited by the new mayor are not few. The marketing positioning of the Green Heart of Bulgaria does not meet modern standards, and the sports facilities do not meet the necessary criteria for conducting a proper training and competition process. Everyone agreed that Chepelare’s greatest asset is its nature, which must not only be preserved but also presented to the world. In pursuit of this goal, the immediate development of the municipality’s tourism website will begin, which will showcase the region’s enormous potential in a modern and attractive way.
Without delay, the Tourism Advisory Council to Chepelare Municipality will meet again in less than a month to approve the development program for the Green Heart of Bulgaria.
