At its meeting in December 2019, the Council of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) awarded Bulgaria the hosting of the European Ski Orienteering Championships and a round of the Ski Orienteering World Cup, as well as the World Masters Ski Orienteering Championships.

The Organizing Committee of the competitions unanimously decided that they will be held in the Rhodope Mountains, with the town of Chepelare as the center, from February 6 to 12, 2021. The competition areas are Rozhen Meadows and Haydushki Meadows. Around 250-300 competitors from 20 countries are expected to take part in the events. Chepelare Municipality will be a main partner in the organization of the competition. At the end of January this year, a meeting of the Organizing Committee with the Mayor of Chepelare Municipality, Mr. Boran Hadzhiev, is scheduled to take place in order to develop a strategy and plan for organizing the competitions.
