A strategy for the sustainable development of health tourism will be created in Chepelare Municipality. This decision was unanimously adopted by the Tourism Advisory Council in the beautiful Rhodope town during an off-site meeting held in our winter resort of Pamporovo. The leading focus will be climatotherapy.

Chepelare has great potential to attract many people from across the country and abroad thanks to its unique climate. The presence of these natural healing resources defines the region as one of the best places for the prevention and treatment of upper respiratory tract diseases and bronchial asthma, according to local experts in the tourism sector, supported by the mayor’s team.
The Rhodope town has the ambition to establish itself on the tourism map under the brand “The Green Heart of Bulgaria”. Nearly 100 years ago, Pamporovo and Chepelare emerged as summer resorts, not winter ones, and the first hospital for the treatment of lung diseases was located in Chepelare.
Today, the mountain town attracts tourists with its climate, forests, conditions for sports and tourism, preserved nature, and cuisine. All these factors contribute to the famous Rhodope longevity, which the hosts want to pass on to their guests. Chepelare’s geographical location is also a key advantage: low humidity, many sunny days, and high negative ionization. The presence of coniferous trees is extremely important, including plenty of juniper, fir, and wild geranium, which emit phytoncides and enrich the air with negative ions that are essential for health prevention and the prophylaxis of pulmonary and other diseases. With their natural resources, Chepelare and Pamporovo are emerging as detox destinations in the Balkans, also aimed at recovery for people who spend most of their time in front of computers and do not have the opportunity to enjoy clean air in their daily lives. This region offers an excellent opportunity to reveal the potential of climatotherapy and health tourism in Bulgaria in an age of allergies, unhealthy eating habits, and high levels of stress among both children and adults.
