The only ski sports museum in Bulgaria had free admission today as part of the Ministry of Tourism’s “A Day for You” initiative
Bulgarian tourists and residents of Chepelare took part in the Ministry of Tourism’s “A Day for You” initiative. They visited the Museum of Skiing and Ski Sports, which offered free admission today as part of the ministry’s project.

Visitors were intrigued by the exhibition, which includes more than 700 different exhibits, such as trophies, medals, and photographs showing the development of winter sports and skiing in the region, as well as the sporting history of individuals who contributed to the development of ski sports and the town as a ski center.
Museum representatives commented that the initiative was interesting and that there were noticeably more visitors today. The museum is the only one of its kind in Bulgaria and was opened in 1998, after biathlete Ekaterina Dafovska won a gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano. Everyone knows who Dafovska is, both young and old, and the atmosphere feels just like it did in 1998, local people commented.

The museum also presents interesting facts related to some of the most successful and renowned Bulgarian figures in winter sports, including Ekaterina Dafovska, Shinka Kutsinova, Krastana Stoeva, Borislav Kiryakov, Radoslav Yankov, Dimitar Gerdzhikov, and others who have written their names in the golden pages of Bulgarian and world ski sports history.
On February 15, the Museum of Rhodope Karst in Chepelare will also offer free admission. It has existed since 1980 and is the only museum of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula. The exhibition features minerals typical of the caves in the region, such as agates, corundum, and other precious and semi-precious stones.
The museum also displays animal species that live in the caves or inhabited them in ancient times.
