VILLAGE OF MALEVO

Village of Malevo

Malevo village

The village of Malevo is only 2 km from Hvoyna and is reached by a turnoff to the left of the road to Orehovo. It is located along the Koilovsko dere - a southern tributary of the Oreshitsa River. The holiday of the village of Malevo is on Ilinden.

About 4 km above the village, the same ravine has formed a natural landmark - Bone Stone, protected by the law of 1965, which is associated with a legend from the time of the conversion to Islam. According to legend, residents of the nearby village of Koylovo were thrown from the edge of the abyss if they refused to accept Islam. The foot of the sheer cliff, about 40 m high, was strewn with bones, hence the name of the area.

Bone Stone, located at the same distance from the village of Orehovo, is a rock massif carved by a small river over millennia. The foot of the rock phenomenon is rarely visited by tourists, because there is still no well-developed approach through the canyon. From the northern edge, the uppermost of the three waterfalls that cut through the deep valley can be seen. Below is the cascade of waterfalls, rock chutes and debris, pools and bushes, along with beautifully blooming tufts of Rhodope mountain ash and geranium.

The nature around Malevo is ideal for hiking and cycling routes, and the village offers opportunities for recreation and relaxation in nature
