Dimitar Gerdjikov recorded the best Bulgarian result in the first individual start for the men's Olympic Games in Beijing. The biathlete from Chepelare made two mistakes during the race and finished 41st in the final standings. The most experienced Bulgarian Vladimir Iliev added five penalty minutes to his time and took 61st place, while Anton Sinapov remained 85th with six shooting errors.
Canten Fillon Maye from France shot down 18 of 20 targets and is the new Olympic champion in the classic individual 20km race. A clean shot brought the silver medal of Anton Smolski from Belarus, and the Norwegian Johannes Bö grabbed bronze with two passes on the shooting range.
