Chepelare is among the most popular destinations in Europe for winter tourism. A large part of the territory of the Municipality is covered with beautiful nature, which offers rich opportunities for all types of winter mountain sports. The pride of Chepelare are the ski areas Pamporovo and Mechi Chal, which annually attract a huge number of Bulgarian and foreign tourists.
In winter, Chepelare becomes a real paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. The ski areas Pamporovo and Mechi Chal offer excellent slopes, modern lifts and perfect conditions for skiing and snowboarding. Thanks to the favorable climate and the high quality of the infrastructure, the region is a preferred destination for Bulgarian and foreign tourists.
In spring, summer and autumn the mountain reveals another beauty. Marked tourist routes, panoramic views, cycling routes and cool mountain climate create ideal conditions for walks, adventures and relaxation in nature. The lifts operating in the summer season in Pamporovo allow visitors to easily reach the most beautiful parts of the mountain.
The fresh mountain climate, the peaceful atmosphere and the traditional Rhodope hospitality make Chepelare an attractive destination for family vacations, meetings with friends or company events.

Our guests can chose between an outdoor tennis court, sports playground, mini-football field with artificial grass and an indoor basketball and volleyball court.
Hiking trails on the territory of Chepelare Municipality
А. Pamporovo – Mechi Chal – Mecho Grobe – ‘Izgrev’ Hut /hiking time 5.30 hours/ – Gluhite Kamani land – Chudni Mostove /5 hours/– ‘Kabata’Hut – through Malevo and Hvoina villages /5 h/
The route goes along the ridge of Chernatitsa – the mightiest hill of Rhodope Mountain. This is a relatively easy terrain, suitable for tourists of all ages.
B. Pamporovo – Mechi Chal – Mecho Grobe – ‘Izgrev’ Hut /5.30 hours/ – Gluhite Kamani land – Groben Prohod land /Mesargedik/– ‘Persenk’ Hut /4 h/ – Vrahovrah Peak /8 h/ - Perushtitsa /5 h/./
The route follows an old excellently preserved Roman road.
C. Pamporovo – Mechi Chal – Mecho Grobe – ‘Izgrev’ Hut /5.30 h/ – Gluhite Kamani land – Groben Prohod land /Mesargedik/– ‘Persenk’ Hut /4 h/ – Vrahovrah Peak /8 h/ - Bryanovshtitsa Hut /5 h/.
The route will leave you speechless with its unique views; it is a time machine to the remote past of the mountain as it goes along the castle of one of the most powerful feudal lords of the long dissapeard village of Tamrash.
D. Pamporovo – Mechi Chal – Mecho Grobe – ‘Izgrev’ Hut /5.30 hours/ – Gluhite Kamani land – Groben Prohod land /Mesargedik/– ‘Persenk’ Hut /4 h/ – Byala Cherkva /6 h/ - ‘Zdravets’ Hut.
In Byala Cherkva you can see the Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul built over the ruins of an old Roman barracks which served as a shelter of the Roman soldiers guarding the ancient Thracian and Roman road.
E. Pamporovo – Mechi Chal – Mecho Grobe – ‘Izgrev’ Hut /5.30 hours/ – Gluhite Kamani area – Chudni Mostove /5 hours/– ‘Kabata’Hut – through Malevo and Hvoina villages /5 h/ - Pavelsko village – ‘Pashaliytsa’ Hut /4.30 h/ - Haydushki Polyani – ‘Momchil Yunak’ Hut /7 h/ - Momchilovtsi village /2.30 h/.
F. Pamporovo – Mechi Chal – Mecho Grobe – ‘Izgrev’ Hut /5.30 hours/ – Gluhite Kamani area – Chudni Mostove /5 hours/– ‘Kabata’Hut – through Malevo and Hvoina villages /5 h/ - Pavelsko village – ‘Pashaliytsa’ Hut /4.30 h/ - Haydushki Polyani – ‘Momchil Yunak’ Hut /7 h/ - National Atronomical Observatory – Rozhenski Polyani – Pamporovo /5 h/.
Haydushki Polyani is an historical place where you will find the Preobrazhenski monument.
After paying a visit to the National Astronomical Observatory, we would suggest you to walk to Rozhenski Polyani, another place of great history moments, which today is a place of traditional folklore fairs.
F. Routes starting from Chepelare
A. The ‘Path of Health’ – it is marked in green colour on wood signs.
You start at the right side of the Church ‘Uspenie na Sv. Bogoroditsa' (The Assumption of the Holy Virgin), then go up the road for about 100 m, then at the little bridge turn right and walk up the steep alley to the end and then go right straight away. Upon 1 h walk turn left and return to the starting point. The level of difficulty of the Path is suitable for all ages. Enjoy the great view!
B. Pamporovo – Mechi Chal Peak – Mecho Grobe – ‘Izgrev’ Hut /5.30 h/. You have two options from there:
- Going back to Chepelare
- Or go further to the Gluhite Kamani natural monument and from there to Chudni Mostove /4 h/
- Gluhite Kamani - Groben Prohod area (Mesargedik) – ‘Persenk’ /4 h/
- Chudni Mostove – ‘Kabata’ Hut – Malevo and Hvoina villages, or Orehovo village - Hvoina village /6 h/./
C. Chepelare – ‘St. Peter and Paul' Chapel – National Astronomical Observatory /2.30 h/– Rozhenski Polyani– Progled village – Chepelare /5 h/
After visiting the National Astronomical Observatory, do not miss the historical place of Rozhenski Polyani – a focal point of many traditional folklore fairs.
D. Chepelare – Mechi Chal Peak – Mecho Grobe – Asenets area – Chepelare /6.30 h/
You just need to follow the old road to the peak and then walk to Izgrev Hut.
E. From the town to the Ostrich Farm – ‘St Ilia’ Chapel – Ravnishkite area and back to Chepelare.
Be ready to have fun and fabulous views.
F. The route from Chepelare along the bank of Yanchovska River – Karamanitsa hamlet.
