11 female writers, 10 countries from 3 continents in a small town that inspires
For the fourth consecutive year, the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation has chosen Chepelare to host the "Women in the Mountains" international writers' residency—the only literary program of its kind in the world created specifically for women writers.
From August 1 to 10, eleven authors from Argentina, Bulgaria, the UK, India, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Palestine, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will create amidst the tranquility and beauty of the Rhodope Mountains while working on their new books. Interest in this year's edition has been impressive, with nearly 300 women writers from around the world applying to participate.
The highlight of the program will be a public literary reading:

Olympic Square, Chepelare Each participant will present an excerpt from her work in the original language and in Bulgarian translation—a rare opportunity to meet some of the most interesting contemporary literary voices from around the world.
